On March 2, 2021, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam signed into
law the Consumer Data Protection Act (the VCDPA or the Act), making
Virginia the second state, following California, to grant consumers
broad privacy rights with respect to their personal information as
collected by businesses both within and outside the state. The
VCDPA will not take effect until January 1, 2023, but businesses
should begin now to assess their potential coverage and to map out

Once again, the Virginia legislature is set to consider comprehensive data privacy legislation. In the 2020 regular session of the Virginia General Assembly, the House of Delegates referred several bills dealing with privacy issues, including a proposed data privacy law, to the Virginia Joint Commission on Science and Technology for study.
This year, it appears Virginia is poised to seriously consider adoption of a broad consumer data privacy framework. Senate Bill 1392 , sponsored by Senator David Marsden (D-Fairfax), was introduced on January 13, 2021. House Bill 2307, sponsored by Delegate Cliff Hayes, Jr. (D-Chesapeake), was introduced on January 20, 2021. The bills create the “Consumer Data Protection Act.” ....

The Virginia Joint Commission on Health Care unanimously voted Tuesday to introduce a bill to the state legislature that would set statewide protocol for three drugs and devices. Statewide protocol would authorize pharmacists to dispense the drugs and devices over the counter to adults over the age of 18.
The drugs and devices to be included in the legislation are tuberculosis testing, HIV prophylaxis to be used both before and after exposure to the virus and devices like epipens. If passed, the bill will help lower out-of-pocket costs for consumers. ....
