West Virginia Giving Away Custom Guns, $1 Million as COVID-19 Vaccination Incentives
West Virginians who get a COVID-19 vaccination will be entered into a sweepstake to win custom guns or $1 million, Gov. Jim Justice announced Tuesday.
“We’re going to give five custom hunting rifles and five custom hunting shotguns away on Father’s Day. And also on Father’s Day, we’re going to make one of you a millionaire. We’re going to give away a million dollars to somebody on Father’s Day,” Justice, a Republican, told a press conference.
The program will award $1 million to one person each week starting June 20. On the last day, Aug. 4, the state will give $1,588,000 to the winner and $588,000 to the runner-up, Justice said. ....

As the COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues, several U.S. states have expanded their eligibility criteria in recent weeks, offering shots to people aged 16 and older.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for people aged 16 and older, while the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson drugs are recommended for those 18 and over.
More than 168.5 million doses have been administered and more than 63 million people have been fully vaccinated, according to the latest CDC report.

ELKINS Several local health facilities have responded to being included in the state Department of Health and Human Resources list, released earlier this week, which claims 165 COVID-19 related deaths had occurred at the facilities on the list but were not properly reported to the state.
A total of 70 facilities were originally included on the DHHR list, including Davis Medical Center in Elkins, where the list claims two of the deaths occurred; Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center, where one of the deaths allegedly occurred; and Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Grant County, where one of the deaths allegedly happened. ....

West Virginia to continue using Everbridge for vaccine registration | News, Sports, Jobs

CHARLESTON The system handling registrations for COVID-19 vaccines in West Virginia will remain in place as long as people are using it to register and schedule vaccinations.
State officials said Wednesday during Gov. Jim Justice’s regular COVID-19 briefing that the Everbridge system will remain in place, but more needs to be done to get people registered.
“We have no plans to replace Everbridge with something else,” said West Virginia Department of Health & Human Resources Secretary Bill Crouch. “The issue right now is not enough people in the state are registering for vaccinations.
“Right now we have 13 counties with less than 100 individuals, age 65 and over (registered) to vaccinate,” Crouch said. ....
