Integration continues between BSOM, Vidant Health

East Carolina Universityâs Brody School of Medicine (BSOM) witnessed the selection of new deans, Michael Waldrum and Jason Higginson, in hopes to strengthen the collaboration among the medical school and Vidant Health Medical Center.Â
A press release from ECU Chancellor Philip Rogers on June 23 said Waldrum, who serves as chief executive officer of Vidant Health, will continue his role with Vidant Health in addition to his new role as dean of BSOM. The press release said Higginson will serve as executive dean of BSOM.
Board of Trustees (BOT) Chair Vern Davenport said ECU and Vidant Health have continued to improve their relationship with each other over the past eight years. He said the integration is unique as Vidant Health is not affiliated with ECU because ECU doesnât own Vidant Medical Center. ....

GOLD! rang through Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium Friday as East Carolina University celebrated the accomplishments of more than 4,200 graduates during a series of spring commencement ceremonies.
In his first commencement as chancellor, Dr. Philip Rogers welcomed students from the Class of 2021 as well as the Class of 2020, whose graduates had online ceremonies last May and December due to the coronavirus pandemic. Three in-person commencement ceremonies on Friday allowed for social distancing with fewer people in the stadium for each event. ....

BOT secretary position nears vacancy, Smith may face re-appointment

Secretary for the East Carolina University Board of Trustees (BOT) Vince Smith may be up for re-appointment of his position and will potentially face a candidate backed by the University of North Carolina (UNC) Board of Governors (BOG) when the BOT votes at its first regular meeting after June 30.
Student Government Association (SGA) President Chandler Ward said a member of the UNC BOG has advocated an unnamed candidate with no direct ties to Greenville, North Carolina, or ECU to fill the open seat in Smithâs place once his current term ends.
âHeâs (Smith) up to re-election so thereâs a potential opening spot and theyâre trying to put someone else in there,â Ward said. ....
