BU Giving Day Raises Nearly $3 Million
More than 8,000 University community members gave to support a range of programs and departments

On April 7, the BU community came together online for the University’s seventh annual Giving Day raising more than $2.96 million for causes and programs across the University. This was the first Giving Day since 2019: last year’s was canceled by the pandemic. 
This year’s
events brought gifts from 8,802 alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends, from 49 states and 45 countries. All told, they supported more than 420 areas at BU, from schools and colleges to athletics, student life, and more. ....

BU pride and resilience are the themes of the seventh Boston University Giving Day, being held Wednesday, April 7. This one-day online fundraising drive supports hundreds of activities and programs on all three BU campuses and beyond, from new equipment for sports teams to new lab supplies, from financial aid to community service work, from antiracist research to theatrical productions. ....

New Gift from Rubenstein Family Will Support Research Vessels and Honor Legacy of Ian deGroot '79

“It’s all connected,” says Beverly Rubenstein. “The water, the air, the land it all goes together and we all live here on earth, so research that benefits the environment benefits everybody.”
A generous new gift from Beverly and her son Andrew to support the University’s research vessels will help generations of University of Vermont students and researchers better understand the interconnections between the broader environment and freshwater ecosystems. This, in turn, will benefit communities across the country and around the globe who depend on freshwater ecosystems for drinking water, food, tourism, commerce, transportation, and natural resource ....

Patricia D. Bonk strong, yet elegant

Patricia D. Bonk of Rehoboth Beach passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021.   She was the daughter of the late Helen McWhorter Draper and Henry Carlton Draper of Milton, born in the dining room of her family home  Nov. 11, 1926.  
She attended high school at the Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Va.  While attending University of Maryland, she met her college sweetheart, Harry Bonk. They were married one week after she received her bachelor’s degree with a major in psychology and a minor in English in 1948.  She was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and a lifetime fan of University of Maryland. ....

Since its 2015 installation in the shadow of Beaver Stadium, the “We Are” sculpture four tons of gleaming Pennsylvania steel, shaped by artist and class of 1994 alumnus Jonathan Cramer into the words of the iconic cheer has become a cherished landmark and a reminder of the Penn State community’s enduring spirit. Now the public has an opportunity to bring the sculpture into their homes and support Penn Staters in need. ....
