Watonwan County Board hears 2019 probation survey report St. James Plaindealer At Tuesday s Watonwan County Board meeting, the board heard Sarah Eischens, the Supervisor of the MN DOC Mankato District, presenting probation numbers for Watonwan County in 2019. We do a probation survey every year, and with the probation survey, we calculate those numbers, said Eischens. The survey from 2019 was out. The one from 2020 is not quite ready yet. The survey showed that at the end of 2018, the county had 245 individuals on probation, and by the end of 2019, that number was down to 220. The probation survey ranged from felonies, gross misdemeanors, misdemeanors, and juvenile offenses. ....
Watonwan County Board approves feedlot reports and quotes to prepare for summer road construction projects St. James Plaindealer At Tuesday s Watonwan County Board meeting, the board heard reports from Land Management Director Dave Haler and Amanda Lang on 2020 annual feedlot reports from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. The reports came back clean, with no incidents to report and a 100% rating. They were happy with everything that went on and the inspections were really good, said Haler. They didn t ding us on anything so we re in pretty good shape there. The county inspected 14 feedlots in 2020, and hopes to inspect closer to 30 in 2021. ....

Board approves food shelf grant, Local Road Improvement Projects resolutions St. James Plaindealer At Tuesday s Watonwan County Board meeting, the board approved a grant for the remodeling of the new Watonwan County Food Shelf and multiple resolutions for Local Road Improvement Projects (LRIP). The Watonwan County Food Shelf was able to purchase Mayberry Lanes through a grant, but work is needed inside of the former bowling alley. The current space for the food shelf is inside the Watonwan County Resource Center and is only 600 square feet. The new facility will be 6,000 square feet. Right now, people feel as though they don t even know where we re at, said Watonwan County Food Shelf Director Katherine Petty. We typically see 75-80 families a month and we do expect with being more in the open that we will probably see an increase in families. ....
County board approves bid for lake surveying and purchase of plow equipment St. James Plaindealer At Tuesday s Watonwan County Board meeting, the board passed a bid for lake surveys in the spring and summer, and the purchase of two plows and plow equipment. The last surveys were done in 2019 on St. James Lake, Kansas Lake, and Long Lake. Initial surveys on the lakes tested in 2019 came back negative. They do an aquatic vegetation survey to go through the lakes and see what s native vegetation out there and if there are any invasive species out there, said Chad Hildebrand, Soil & Water Conservation District Assistant Manager & County Ditch Inspector. ....
