Thanked: 9,663 Times
After 2 months of cloudy nights, got a couple of nights of clear skies. Managed to shoot a few targets on the nights of 17th and 18th May. With the pier setup, I spent an hour on 17th for polar alignment. After this, it took just 10 minutes on 18th night (or early morning on 19th at 2:45AM) to open the enclosure and start capturing.
M51 Whirlpool Galaxy:
The Whirlpool Galaxy, also known as Messier 51a, M51a, and NGC 5194, is an interacting grand-design spiral galaxy with a Seyfert 2 active galactic nucleus. It lies in the constellation Canes Venatici, and was the first galaxy to be classified as a spiral galaxy. This galaxy is situated at 23.16 million light years from the earth and has a radius of 30,000 light years. This galaxy is 400 million years old, a child compared our own Milky Way which is 13.5 billion years old. This image is an integration of 1 hour and 12 minutes (24 images of 3 minute exposure each) ....

At the time, all ingredients of the process were speculative, but the new observations confirm the Blandford-Znajek idea. “What we see in our image is ordered polarization in a spiral shape,” said Issaoun, who was involved in analyzing the polarization measurements. “And the shape of the magnetic field is also spiral … which means it’s able to launch a jet.”
“I’m very chuffed,” Znajek, now a retired Cambridge city councilor, said by email.
Moreover, the new observations point to one of two rival versions of the Blandford-Znajek process that have been developed and explored in hundreds of computer simulations in recent decades, known as the MAD and SANE jet-launching scenarios. These competing ideas paint opposing pictures of a black hole’s milieu and, in particular, the origin and strength of its magnetic field. ....

A 16-year-old boy from Pune, Maharashtra, has created one of the most beautiful and detailed three-dimensional images of the Moon by compositing 50,000 images. Prathamesh Jaju, who describes himself as an amateur astronomer and astrophotographer, said the massive number of images (over 186GB data) he had to work with almost killed his laptop while processing. What an awesome thread graaja! you passion and dedication to astrophotography is really amazing!
The amount of hardware and software and the effort to setup them up and capture those sensational photos really deserves a big kudos to you.
I too was bitten by the bug of star gazing and i purchased a MEADE Polaris 130/650 EQ-3 Reflector Telescope couple of weeks back. While it claims to have a EQ3 mount, in reality it is EQ2 and i am still getting the hand of the whole setup from the mount to the eye pieces to use.
I also purchased a mobile phone mount to capture photos and so far all my efforts have been only towards watching moon and clicking few photos. ....
