According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is going to get very cold in North India, and drinking alcohol at home or year-end parties is not advised.
As per a report in PTI, the IMD said severe cold wave is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and northern Rajasthan from December 28 and there is increased likelihood of various illnesses like flu, running nose or nosebleed which usually set in or get aggravated due to prolonged exposure to cold. ....

A thick layer of fog engulfed parts of the national capital on Sunday including Rajghat and Punjabi Bagh. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are likely to re-establish over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh from 29th December.
According to the bulletin, the cold wave situation is likely to increase in spatial coverage during the subsequent two days. Northern parts of Saurashtra and Kutch and West Madhya Pradesh also likely to experience cold wave conditions on these days. ....

'Timely policy intervention, tech required to tackle Delhi air pollution'

The issue of Delhi’s air pollution problem cannot be resolved by science and technology alone, but also by timely policy and political interventions, said M Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Science (MoES) at the virtual curtain-raiser event on Friday, ahead of the 6th India International Science Festival (IISF). MoES, Department of Science and Technology, Council of Industrial and Scientific Research, Department of Biotechnology and Vijnana Bharathi are jointly organising the event scheduled to be held online between December 22 and 25.
Delhi’s poor air quality is a perennial problem and the weather during the winter along with polluting sources aggravate this problem, said Rajeevan. “ Air pollution is a serious issue. MoES along with other S&T ministries are working to address the matter.
