Developing individual plans and studies to give students the chance to acquire the skills to investigate the careers and employ strategies to attune to their future career goals, the Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation has recognized the efforts of counselors in Wamego High School and elsewhere in the community to network, mentor, job shadow, and coordinate internships that 50 out of the 95 in the senior class participated in. Executive Director Jack Allston highlights that developing that individual plan of study is the real key, as students take the Work Keys test in February of their junior year, and then wrap their plan of study into the internships that they’re going to have. ....
Wamego High students organize walkout in support of coach Students at Wamego High School organized a walkout Friday in support of girls basketball coach Brian McIntosh. The district wouldn’t comment on the matter other than to say 148 students participated in the student-led event around 11:30 a.m., according to an email sent to parents Friday. The Wamego Times reports the coach was suspended recently while inquiries into complaints are being made. Details weren’t immediately clear but at least one source told KMAN a complaint was made into language the coach allegedly used. The Wamego School Board entered into a nearly hour long executive session April 12 for a “personnel performance matter pursuant to the non-elected personnel exception under the Kansas Open Meetings Act.” ....
