Scituate Senior Center officially opens

After decades of plans, discussions and dreams, a new Scituate Senior Center has become a reality.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on May 13 to officially introduce the facility to the community.
“It is a true pleasure to stand here before you – in the sun/shadows adjacent to our new Senior Center,” said JD Miller, chairperson of the Scituate Council on Aging board of directors as he greeted those in attendance in the patio area outside the building. “This has been a long time coming. And, it is long overdue. This building represents a new beginning, and a welcoming, for all residents of Scituate.” ....

Scituate Ladies Auxiliary VFW announces essay winners

SCITUATE Some associate American history with the first president of the United States, George Washington, or July 4, 1776, the date on which America was founded. But on July 4, 1776, a fairy godmother didn’t just wave her magic wand and make America appear. It took many brilliant people to lay the foundation of this magnificent country.
These words are an excerpt from an essay written by student Erin Gibbons, who won first place in the “Voice of Democracy” essay competition sponsored by the Scituate Ladies Auxiliary VFW late last year.
“Although I’m honored to win the first two levels of competition, it feels better to spread awareness for veterans people who put their lives on the line for our country than it does to win,” Erin said. “I hope that people reading this will support our local chapter, and all veterans.” ....
