Route 3A in Scituate/Cohasset plagued by crashes, fast drivers

In the late afternoon one day last August, Jenny Canelos, 36, was on her way home to North Scituate from her job as a nanny, when she came to the intersection at Chief Justice Cushing Highway (Route 3A) and Booth Hill Road.
As she attempted to cross 3A, according to police, Canelos’ vehicle was hit broadside.
Canelos, a Scituate native, was rushed to South Shore Hospital, then transported to the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston for emergency surgery to save her life.
After weeks in intensive care, and then months in a rehabilitation center, Canelos finally returned home last February. ....

Scituate Senior Center officially opens

After decades of plans, discussions and dreams, a new Scituate Senior Center has become a reality.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on May 13 to officially introduce the facility to the community.
“It is a true pleasure to stand here before you – in the sun/shadows adjacent to our new Senior Center,” said JD Miller, chairperson of the Scituate Council on Aging board of directors as he greeted those in attendance in the patio area outside the building. “This has been a long time coming. And, it is long overdue. This building represents a new beginning, and a welcoming, for all residents of Scituate.” ....

Scituate DPW employees repair veteran memorial signs

For about a month, members of the Scituate Public Grounds Division have been working on a special project – they have been restoring approximately 15 veteran memorial signs/markers throughout town.
These signs/markers honor the men and women who served in the U.S. military or who gave the last full measure of devotion to their nation, said DPW equipment operator John Kerr, who served four years active duty in the U.S. Marines.
“If the sign has a white star it denotes the veteran served their nation; a gold star means they gave the ultimate sacrifice and died in combat for their nation.” ....

Committee to review what to do with Scituate Harbor Community Building

“When I go through the comments I see a lot for some kind of boating, a kayak launch, a dock or piers,” said Town Administrator Jim Boudreau. “We really don’t have access to the water from that location. There are docks, piers and boat yards blocking our access to the water from that location.”
The need for restroom facilities and additional parking in the Harbor has been an ongoing issue; something also mentioned in the survey comments. Boudreau said restrooms could be a benefit as the Scituate Harbor Community Building property is about midway between the popular sites at the Harbor and Cedar Point and the Lighthouse. ....
