Washington County Commission discusses appropriations | News, Sports, Jobs

mnewbanks@mariettatimes.com
A Washington County department head said he was “blindsided” by having his budget cut by about $175,000 by the Washington County Commission.
After their regular business meeting Thursday morning, the commission met to discuss the 2021 appropriations.
“Every department save one received exactly what their budget request was for the 2021 fiscal year,” Commission President Ron Feathers said. “There was one that is based solely off of their revenue. This is not an indication of leadership or management, it’s simply an indication of COVID that we had to cut back about $200,000.”
He said the department is well needed, but it’s also a department of convenience and is not mandated. ....

After it was accepted as a township road, testimony was heard from proponents from both Barlow Township and the school district.
Warren Local School board member Bob Allen asked the commission to designate it “Big Blue Way.” ....

Attorney General Dave Yost urged to join fight against voter fraud | News, Sports, Jobs

mnewbanks@mariettatimes.com
A resolution passed Thursday by the Washington County Commission was met with a “baffling” court brief by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.
The resolution urged Yost to join in a multi-state suit claiming voter fraud.
“An overwhelming majority of 69.53 percent of Washington County voters expressed their clear preference that Donald J. Trump be re-elected to the Presidency of the United States; and the veracity of the national election results have not been contested to multiple states through dozens of public and private lawsuits and recounts and investigations are ongoing in multiple states,” read Commissioner Kevin Ritter.
The state of Texas, along with some 18 others, have filed suit with the U.S. Supreme Court claiming voter fraud has led to the disenfranchisement of the citizens, the resolution states. ....
