The 20 greatest Nightwish songs – ranked — Kerrang!

From Angels Fall First to Human. :||: Nature., we rank symphonic metal icons Nightwish’s most epic compositions…
Words: Sam Law
Symphonic metal existed before Nightwish – pioneered by outfits like Sweden’s Therion and Italy’s Rhapsody – but no band has made it bigger, better or more bombastic than the great Finnish collective. When keyboardist and bandleader Tuomas Holopainen first envisioned the band while sitting around a campfire with friends, the idea was that it’d be a vehicle for the experimental acoustic music he’d written during time in the Finnish army, perfect for settings just like that. Joining forces with guitarist Erno ‘Emppu’ Vuorinen and the classical vocalist Tarja Turunen, who had shared the same music teacher, Plamen Dimov, a few years earlier, preparations were set in motion for something far more grandiose. Bassist Sami Vänskä and drummer Jukka Nevalainen completed the initial line-up that’d make an unlikely assault on t ....

University of Arizona asteroid hunters overcome virus, wildfire in record year of discoveries [The Arizona Daily Star, Tucson]
Feb. 15 Asteroid hunters from the University of Arizona set another record in 2020, despite a pair of earthly threats to their early-warning telescopes high in the Catalina Mountains.
The NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey identified 1,548 new near-Earth objects last year, the most productive year in the decades-old search for dangerous space rocks in our immediate cosmic neighborhood.
To reach the new mark, survey members had to overcome a weeklong coronavirus shutdown in the spring. Then came the massive Bighorn Fire, which chased them off the mountain for three weeks and nearly burned down their telescopes. ....

Could Anything Make Humans Extinct In The Near Future?

It did become extinct eventually, but not through asteroid impacts. Probably because it was unable to retract its neck and succumbed to predators.
And it is also extremely unlikely that we are hit by anything even that big. We have found all the 10 km diameter asteroids between Jupiter and the Sun already. Found 90% of the 1 km ones also. The 10 km ones happen only every 100 million years. And given that we have found all except the ones currently way out further away than Jupiter, that makes it 99.99999% certain we won t be hit by one of those this century.
However, humans can live on many things, not just on land, also in the sea and along the sea shore, in lakes, underground, and in the air. Hard to think of many animals as adaptable as humans with the most primitive technology. Fruit, insects, nuts, grains, roots, shellfish, fish, animals, including rodents and other small animals, birds, seaweed, etc. If you lived exclusively on some of those you might not live very ....
