Port of Long Beach incentivizes trucking industry to adopt cleaner fuels as electric, hydrogen tech scale up

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners approved an exemption from the Clean Truck Fund Rate for the cleanest natural-gas-powered trucks, according to an announcement Monday. The rate, which has been set at $10 per 20-foot equivalent unit for any non-zero-emissions truck at the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles, has not yet been implemented.
This new exemption applies to trucks picking up or dropping off loaded containers at the Port of Long Beach that use natural gas engines that meet the 0.02 grams of nitrogen oxides per brake horsepower-hour standard, according to the announcement. To be eligible for the lifetime exemption, trucks must be purchased and registered in the Port Drayage Truck Registry by Dec. 31, 2022. ....

Lion Electric: EVs save transport firms 80% on energy, 60% on repair costs compared to diesel

Lion Electric believes its battery-electric vehicles have a lower total cost of ownership compared to diesel vehicles, in most use cases, according to an F-4 the Canada-based OEM filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Thursday.
On average, EVs could save fleets about 80% on energy costs and 60% on repair and maintenance, when compared to diesel, the company said.
The company said it expects production costs to decrease as battery costs come down, and increased purchasing power should reduce the costs of other vehicle parts. In that vein, Lion Electric said Monday it is building a battery manufacturing plant and an innovation center in Quebec, which will reduce battery costs. ....

Lessons from NFI's electric truck adoption

NFI’s journey into electric truck deployment began in 2018. Now, the fleet is testing out 10 electric vehicles from Daimler at its Chino, California, facility.
The test program got off to a quick start, once NFI’s senior vice president of fleet services, Bill Bliem, and others began exploring options with OEMs.
A year later, we had our first electric Daimler tractor in place, he said. They partnered with us from pitch to implementation.
It’s early in the process, but Bliem said he is pleased
with where things stand. While it’s a small dip into the zero-emissions pool, the New-Jersey-based company’s experiment is providing plenty of information for future investment. ....
