Bill allowing guns at churches with schools triggers debate, but heads to Senate floor anyway
The bill garnered pushback from several religious groups.
A bill that would allow Floridians with concealed weapons permits to carry a gun in religious institutions, even if there is a school on the property, is on to the Senate floor. 
The Senate Rules Committee heard the House version of the bill (
Joe Gruters, who sponsored the Senate version of the bill (
SB 498), presented it to the committee, which voted 10-6 to send it to the Senate Floor on a party-line vote.
Although Florida law does not prevent a person from carrying a gun into a religious institution, current statute does prohibit individuals from bringing firearms into houses of worship located on the same property as a school. This proposal would change that. ....

Allegheny County Exec Rich Fitzgerald vetoes paid sick leave bill citing legal concerns

Rich Fitzgerald at a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Life Pittsburgh event in McKees Rocks A week after Allegheny County Council passed a bill to provide paid sick days to workers of businesses and organizations that employ more than 25 people, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald has vetoed the bill. On March 9, the bill was passed by a 10-4 margin.
In a statement, Fitzgerald said he supports the issue, but says the bill was passed the “wrong way” and that he believes it will have troubles if challenged in court.
“It’s simply not fair to give employees in our county false hope that they’re protected when the process followed by Council jeopardizes that,” says Fitzgerald in a press release. “If we want to protect our residents, families, community, and public health, we ....
