It was standing room only at Thursday’s Washington County Commission meeting as the board declared the county a “Second Amendment Sanctuary.”
Commissioner Jamie Booth read the resolution, which states in part that the board has “all taken such oaths and are obligated to support the Constitution of the United States, including the Second Amendment. And whereas, the Board of County Commissioners of Washington County does not have unlimited authority, but only the authority granted to it by the Ohio legislature.” ....

A funding request for the Devola sewer project will soon be sent to U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Ohio, by the Washington County Commission.
“The Republican conference in the House of Representatives is allowing each Republican member to identify up to 10 projects for infrastructure funding,” explained Commission President Kevin Ritter at Thursday’s board meeting. “What this board is doing is making the application to Rep. Johnson’s office for the Devola sewer project to be included as one of those projects.” ....

Commission discusses Devola sewer | News, Sports, Jobs

Devola’s upcoming sewering was debated at Thursday’s meeting of the Washington County Board of Commissioners.
Devola resident Glenn Pawloski asked the commission if they had talked to the township association that a majority of households in Devola do not support or want to be sewered. The township association had met Wednesday night at the offices of Washington County Engineer Roger Wright.
“Did you inform the township association that merely 161 of 563 Devola households approved the (right of entry) agreements solicited by Heritage Land Services on behalf of the Washington County Commission?” he asked.
Commissioner Jamie Booth said he was at last week’s meeting and they had asked for a letter of support for H20 funding, not as a consent decree or that they have a final permit to install. ....

WSP to speak with Devola residents | News, Sports, Jobs

The engineering design firm WSP will come to Devola next week to speak with residents about the Devola Sewer Improvement Project.
WSP will be in town to finalize landowner septic tank and proposed grinder pump locations on individual properties, according to the Washington County Commission.
“We wanted to make sure WSP would be available to answer questions for anyone out there,” Commissioner Charlie Schilling said.
He said he likes the fact that WSP will be getting in touch with residents if they have any questions. ....

County looks to appointing prosecutor | News, Sports, Jobs

A special prosecutor may soon be appointed to handle misdemeanor animal cruelty and neglect cases.
Washington County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kelly McGilton and board members of the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley met with Washington County Commissioners after their regular business meeting Thursday morning.
McGilton said there has been conversations about possibly appointing Jeff Holland of Medina County as the special prosecutor to help push cases forward.
“They are specialized and there’s a lot that goes into them,” she explained. “We always would appreciate someone who is an expert in the field.” ....
