Washington School Board Approves Technology Plan, Computer Purchase

The Washington School Board approved several technology-related items during their regular meeting Wednesday.
Technology Director Jeff Brock and Assistant Technology Director John TeBockhorst gave an update on what they’ve accomplished since last summer, including a high school intercom upgrade, replacement of the elementary Chromebooks, a firewall system upgrade, and a new hands-free time and attendance system for employees. The board then approved their fiscal year 2022 plan, which includes replacement of the high school staff and students’ laptops, and selling the old devices which are expected to cover about 30% of the purchase. The board also approved a three-year lease agreement with Apple Financial Services for purchase of the new computers, at a cost of $688,865. They also reviewed the three quotes received from recycling vendors for purchasing the old computers, and approved the technology staff’s recommendation to accept the highest quote from Total Technology, ....

Washington School Board Approves Summer, Five-Year Building Projects

The Washington School Board approved their five-year facility plan during their January meeting, which features projects at both of the elementary buildings this summer.
Superintendent Willie Stone says this summer they will be repaving the north parking lot at Stewart Elementary, and they will be addressing tuck pointing issues at Stewart and Lincoln elementaries as well. The plan also includes asbestos abatement in two rooms in the district’s buildings each year over the next five years. Stone mentions another project that may take a couple years at Lincoln, “The biggest thing this first year will be getting started with (the) geothermal mechanical system and address unit ventilators and fire alarm system at Lincoln. We have a lot of work at Lincoln this upcoming summer and the mechanical system is basically our HVAC system, and it will help us tremendously with air handling which right now with the pandemic that’s something we need to worry about anyways and that woul ....

Washington Schools Opening Household Spectator Policy to Grandparents

The Washington School Board approved a modification of their spectator policy Wednesday evening.
The district announced last Friday that they would continue allotting two tickets per event participant following Governor Kim Reynolds’ proclamation lifting spectator restrictions, though the two tickets would allow a participants’ entire household to attend if they arrived together. Superintendent Willie Stone says the board decided Wednesday night to also include grandparents with participants’ households, effective Thursday. Stone explains that if a household has more than one participant, each participant is still allowed two tickets, “Now as far as if a family has two students in the same household, yes, they get four tickets. Their household will still enter on two tickets, and then the other two tickets, we can’t really figure out a way around it. The other two tickets they can give to someone else if they want and they’ll be used as single tickets only.” ....
