Tributes after death of Dunbar seven-year-old Benjamin Davey


TRIBUTES have been paid to “a joyful little boy” who touched the lives of so many in East Lothian.
Seven-year-old Benjamin Davey died at Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children after suffering heart failure on Friday.
The youngster, who had a number of health conditions, was well known in his home town of Dunbar but also further afield.
His mum Alex, who works with the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, said: “Benjamin was a joyful little boy.
“He was so uncomplicated and he had so much love.
“He saw the beauty in the simplest things and he taught us so much. ....

Sanderson's Wynd, St Martin's and Windygoul primary schools boosted by Charles River


A RESEARCH centre near Tranent has donated £60,000 to the town’s three primary schools to support the development of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities.
Charles River provides research services for drug discovery globally, with one of its facilities just outside Tranent, between the town and Elphinstone.
A spokesperson for Charles River said: “As Covid-19 continues to impact the community, Charles River is committed to supporting local organisations, including one of the groups facing considerable operational challenges: schools.
“While schools are one of the many groups facing unique obstacles, the education and wellbeing of students remains the top priority.” ....

Coronavirus at North Berwick High, Preston Lodge and Sanderson's Wynd Primary Schools


PARENTS have been informed of positive coronavirus cases at three schools in East Lothian.
Parents and carers and North Berwick High School and Preston Lodge High School in Prestonpans have been told that a small number of people from the schools have tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, a person at Sanderson s Wynd Primary School in Tranent has also recorded a positive coronavirus test.
Parents and carers at all three schools were sent a letter which stated: We have been working closely with NHS Lothian Health Protection Team and following all national guidance.
A number of people have now been contacted because they have been in close and sustained contact with the case and the tracking process is now complete. ....

Dunbar mum Alex Davey's fears for her son if he catches coronavirus


A CONCERNED mum, whose son has a range of health conditions, hopes families like hers will be given priority when it comes to being vaccinated against coronavirus.
Alex Davey is among the parents joining charity Kindred in writing to the Scottish Government outlining the fear that catching the virus would leave them unable to look after their vulnerable children.
She fears her son, who attends Sanderson’s Wynd Primary School in Tranent, could be taken into a hospital or hospice if she or her husband are diagnosed with Covid-19.
Alex said: “Benjamin has microlissencephaly, which means his brain did not develop properly in the womb. He has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy, he is visually impaired and he is fed through a tube. ....
