Drink Victorian Program backs local brewers & bars
The Victorian Government is getting behind Victoria’s brewers, winemakers and distillers with a new program aimed at getting more locally produced drinks into bars and restaurants.
Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas announced on Wednesday $1.5 million of funding for the Drink Victorian Program at the official opening of the Australian Craft Beer Centre of Excellence in Ballarat.
The Victorian Drinks Alliance – a collaboration between Victorian beverage producers and Food and Drink Victoria – developed the program to build domestic demand for locally produced drinks, in response to the challenges faced during the pandemic.

The Organisational Council for Greek National Day is made up of representatives from all of Victoria’s major Greek Organisations and has been busy planning and programming the events to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the 1821 Greek Revolution.
The 25 March 1821 commemoration is of religious and national importance for Hellenism. Greeks around the globe celebrate the Annunciation of Our Lady (Evangelismos) as well as the proclamation of the Modern Hellenic State 200 years ago – a very important milestone.
This Commemoration of the Bicentenary of Modern Greece gives the Greek Australian community of Victoria, the Paroikia, the opportunity to promote, educate and enhance the knowledge and understanding of what happened in 1821 to our third, fourth and subsequent generations of Greek Australians. In this way, we can ensure the significance of the important historical event is not lost.

Multicultural organisations can apply for funding for events to be held between March and June this year.
Acting Minister for Multicultural Affairs Shaun Leane opened the Multicultural Festivals and Events Program, aimed at helping diverse communities to come together in a COVIDSafe way in order to celebrate their culture and traditions.
In March, Victoria’s Greek community will celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Greek Independence – a significant occasion on the cultural calendar. The state government will invest $200,000 to support celebrations, an election commitment which had been made to Victorian Greeks who make up the largest Greek population in the world outside of Greece.
The Murray River splits three states in the south-east of the country and tells many stories from many clans and tribes: to the Bangerang in north-eastern Victoria it’s called Dunggula.
The river is known as a lifeline to many, but in the Bangerang creation story it wasn’t always so: a sandy desert plain existed in its place.
It s a story which goes back millennia, and now makes up one of four new i-books exploring the origins of First Nations cultural practices, totems, and Country.
The creation stories they tell come from Nyikina, Gija, Bangerang and Jaara communities and were launched last week through the SharingStories Foundation.
