COVID-19 News: Ontario shutting down outdoor recreation, gatherings as COVID-19 cases climb in Simcoe Muskoka

The provincial government is adding sweeping new restrictions to stop what the Premier calls an inferno of COVID-19 cases.
At midnight, outdoor recreation facilities, including playgrounds and golf courses, will be shut down. Outdoor gatherings will be prohibited except by members of the same household.
Capacity at essential retailers, including big box stores, is being cut from 50 percent to 25 percent. Non-essential construction will be paused.
Beginning Monday, houses of worship and attendance at weddings and funerals will be limited to 10 people.
The province-wide stay-at-home order has been extended to May 21: the eve of Victoria Day holiday weekend. Solicitor General Sylvia Jones says police can stop citizens to ask where they re headed and for their home address. ....

COVID-19 News: Ontario considers tightened measures as COVID-19 cases climb in Simcoe Muskoka

The Ontario government is expected to announce tightened restrictions Friday afternoon amid surging COVID-19 infection rates and hospitalizations.
In Simcoe Muskoka, case counts hit triple digits for a second consecutive day, with 133 infections, including 43 hospitalizations.
Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre s (RVH) president and CEO calls the rising cases and hospitalizations during the third wave a scary time. Janice Skot said hospitals are experiencing overwhelming admission numbers as staff encounter a high level of fatigue, stress and burnout.
There have been 13 virus-related deaths in April so far, as the number of lives lost to COVID-19 across Simcoe Muskoka hit 215. No new deaths were reported Friday. ....

COVID-19 News: Simcoe Muskoka reports 89 new COVID-19 cases, plus 3 more deaths

Eighty-nine COVID-19 cases were reported Wednesday across Simcoe Muskoka, plus three more virus-related deaths.
Public health says a man and woman over 80 and a woman between 45 and 64, all from Simcoe County, died from complications of the virus. Their deaths raise the number of lives lost to COVID-19 to 215. 
So far this year, 144 Simcoe Muskoka residents lost their lives after becoming infected. In the first 14 days of April, 13 residents reportedly passed from COVID-19. In March, the health unit reported 12 individuals died. February marks the second deadliest month after 31 infected residents died. January holds the grim record of 88 virus-related deaths, most attributed to a devastating outbreak at Roberta Place, a long-term care home in Barrie. ....

COVID-19 News: Easter holiday testing confirms 371 new COVID-19 cases in Simcoe Muskoka


 
BARRIE, ONT.
COVID-19 testing clinics across Simcoe Muskoka experienced an influx of patients over the Easter long weekend, resulting in 371 confirmed cases from Friday to Monday.
Barrie reported 126 positive tests, Bradford had 71, New Tecumseth had 58, and Innisfil had 37. The remaining infections are listed in Adjala-Tosorontio, Essa, Clearview, Collingwood, Springwater, Oro-Medonte, Tay, Wasaga Beach, Tiny, Midland, Orillia, Severn, and Penetanguishene. Muskoka had eight cases total.  They are listed in Muskoka Lakes, Bracebridge, Huntsville and Lake of Bays.
The health unit also reports three Simcoe County men over 65 passed away from complications after contracting COVID-19.  To date, 203 residents have died with the virus, including 12 last month. ....
