County OK's Pamlico incentives

The Wichita County Commissioners Court passed an incentive plan for the Pamlico Air plant Tuesday.
The plant, located in the former Stanley Tool building in the city’s business park, makes air filters. It has already surpassed its promise to employ 200 workers.
The county’s incentive package includes abating most taxes the first year and then increasing taxes in increments over the next 10 years.
Under law, counties cannot offer abatement on taxes to its sinking funds or road and bridge fund, but county Judge Woody Gossom said that would have little impact on the deal.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Commissioner Mark Beauchamp said the jail portion of the new Law Enforcement Center has earned a certificate of occupancy from the city of Wichita Falls. ....

Wichita County wins safety in the workplace award

The county was one of only 12 Texas counties to win the 2020 Safety Achievement Award.
It was honored for its record of commitment to safety in the workplace, as well as for controlling the county s workers compensation claims, according to a news release from the association. Through its commitment to safe practices among county employees, Wichita County works to reduce employee injuries and obtain substantial savings for taxpayers.

Wichita County courts continue remote hearings

Wichita County judges are taking a wait-and-see approach to changing from remote back to in-person hearings. Jury trials are still on the backburner, too.
Local judges want to see what affect spring break travel and activities has on the numbers of COVID-19 cases before possibly loosening restrictions for Wichita County courts, local administrative Judge Charles Barnard said recently.
“We’re going to kind of see how that evolves, Barnard, 89th District judge, said.
The numbers have been going down, and hopefully that will continue, he said.
Gov. Greg Abbott lifted his mask mandate in March.
And the Wichita County Commissioners Court loosened restrictions Monday in county buildings that don t house a courtroom if approved by the elected officials and department heads concerned. ....

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - The Wichita County Commissioners Court passed a court order Monday stating anyone entering a county building must wear masks and observe COVID social distancing and sanitation recommendations.
County officials said not following this order is not a jailable offense, but you will not be allowed to enter Wichita County facilities. Anyone with a court appearance will need to follow this policy.
The policy is expected to remain in place unless removed by a different court order. This policy has been adopted by both the Wichita County Commissioners Court and Wichita County Board of Administrative Judges. ....
