Wichita County judges are taking a wait-and-see approach to changing from remote back to in-person hearings. Jury trials are still on the backburner, too. Local judges want to see what affect spring break travel and activities has on the numbers of COVID-19 cases before possibly loosening restrictions for Wichita County courts, local administrative Judge Charles Barnard said recently. “We’re going to kind of see how that evolves," Barnard, 89th District judge, said. "The numbers have been going down, and hopefully that will continue," he said. Gov. Greg Abbott lifted his mask mandate in March. And the Wichita County Commissioners Court loosened restrictions Monday in county buildings that don't house a courtroom — if approved by the elected officials and department heads concerned.
