VA Senate Approves Bill to Change 'Jefferson Davis Highway' to 'Emancipation Highway'

A bill to rename “Jefferson Davis Highway” on U.S. Route 1 to “Emancipation Highway” passed the Virginia Senate Thursday in a 30-9 vote.
The bill, which Del. Josh Cole (D-Fredericksburg) introduced, was approved by the Virginia House of Delegates by a 70-28 vote this month.
The legislation will be headed to Gov. Ralph Northam’s (D) desk for his signature, after which it will become law effective January 1, 2022.
But even after the Senate vote, it remains unclear if the affected localities of Fredericksburg will rename U.S. 1 within their borders.
The bill only applies to areas in the state where U.S. 1 is still named after former Confederate President Jefferson Davis. ....

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) A man was found shot to death inside a car in the Third Ward overnight, and Houston police are searching for the shooter.
Around 1 a.m. Monday, multiple shots were fired at a white sedan on Arbor Street near Emancipation, police say.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a man dead in the passenger seat.

If I had to sum up the book of Exodus in one word, it would be Moses.
There’s a sense of nostalgia when it comes to reading the Exodus stories surrounding Moses. Many of us grew up watching the
Prince of Egypt or learned about the plagues in Sunday School or VBS. However, it wasn’t until my most-recent read through that I paid closer attention to some characters in this divine story - the Israelites.
Pharaoh and the Egyptians were using the Israelites as slaves and forcing them to carry out dangerous work. They were cruelly treated and held in bondage by Pharaoh himself. After many warnings (and plagues), the Pharaoh released the Israelites, and the Lord delivered them from slavery. But the most interesting part of the story is not that they were rescued, walked through a parted sea, or lived to tell the tale. No, the real kicker is how they acted after God rescued them. ....
