Nothing wrong with officer's body-language testimony, justices rule 6-1

A school resource officer’s interpretation of a boy’s body language was an acceptable piece of testimony in the trial of the boy’s relative, the Colorado Supreme Court decided by 6-1 on Monday.
“Certain types of body language, like the myriad hand signals of a Colorado Rockies third base coach or the gestures of the conductor of the Colorado Symphony, may lie outside an ordinary person’s knowledge and experience,” wrote Justice Maria E. Berkenkotter in the majority opinion. “Other types of body language, however, are very familiar to ordinary people because everyday social interactions present countless opportunities to observe body language and ascribe meaning to it.” ....

Don't make these common blackjack mistakes

Some blackjack players never learn basic strategy. Some memorize the chart but can t quite convince themselves that all the plays are in their best interest.
Whatever the cause, some mistakes crop up over and over.
Let s look at a few I see frequently. They re not necessarily the costliest mistakes possible, but players don t make errors such as hitting 20. These are mistakes players make all too often.
ACE-7 vs. 9: Players stand on soft 18 a LOT more often than on soft 17. It s better to double down if the dealer has anything from 2 through 6 up, but standing is the basic strategy play if the dealer shows 7 or 8. ....

Oregon recreational marijuana sales have climbed to record highs, but some say the industry s woes also have reached an apex. The difficulties range from an unfavorable federal tax code to a dangerous crime wave, wildfires, and cities and counties hungry for a larger slice of the tax pie.
Businesses are still struggling, says Kim Lundin, executive director of the Oregon Cannabis Association. High sales don t transfer to overall industry success.
But the marijuana milestone $1.1 billion in sales in 2020, blowing past the $795 million benchmark set in 2019 has started a battle for cash at the state Capitol regardless. ....
