Anti-vaccine and vaccine-sceptic groups and individuals are campaigning, fundraising and and registering to run in the federal election, hoping to capitalise on the interest around vaccines to gain a foothold in Australian politics.
With less than a year to go until the latest date that the federal election can be held, COVID-19 vaccinations are shaping up to be a — if not the — defining issue.
The government is heralding the number of Australians who’ve been vaccinated and the doses procured. Meanwhile, Labor has narrowed in on the stunted rollout (and the lack of quarantine facilities).

Barnaby Joyce scores dismal ratings in Resolve poll, while Berejiklian government easily in front despite NSW lockdown

This is based on a sample of 1,607, conducted from July 13 to July 17.
Two party estimates are not provided by Resolve, but The Poll Bludger estimates 51.5-48.5 to Labor from these primary votes, which is a one-point gain for Labor.
Negative ratings for Joyce, Morrison and Albanese
Of those surveyed, 45% said they had a negative view of Nationals leader and Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce. Just 16% had a positive view, for a net likeability of -29. Former Nationals leader Michael McCormack had a 17% negative, 11% positive rating for a net -6 in June.
This poll suggests the ousting of McCormack in favour of Joyce could hurt the Coalition, as I wrote about last month.

Covid vaccination sceptic's health retreat received $62,000 from jobkeeper

The party’s public statements are primarily aimed at stopping compulsory vaccination and coercive policies designed to encourage vaccination uptake. The federal health minister, Greg Hunt, has previously labelled the party “anti-vaxxers” while attempting to prevent its recent name change.
The retreat in Bellbrook, north-eastern New South Wales, was previously run by Michael’s wife, the banned wellness coach Barbara O’Neill, who wrongly told people their cancer was a fungus that could be cured with bicarbonate of soda rather than through conventional medical treatment, according to a finding from the Health Care Complaints Commission in 2019.
The commission also found O’Neill gave misleading and dangerous pregnancy and child-rearing advice in consultations and through online lectures.
