The tax laws for retrospective taxation were passed around 2006. Even the Vodafone case was under the same law.
I dont understand this law at all, even in Layman terms. Hope there is an out of court settlement on this.

What is referred to as retrospective law is just a small piece added to legislation to enforce the intent & spirit of the original applicable law. The government is well within its rights to do it when loopholes get exposed/ used to nullify the spirit of the law. ....

Business wants to see the Budget focus on driving economic growth, addressing debt levels and maintaining border security, according to a new survey.
The poll, conducted by New Zealand accounting and business advisory network Baker
Tilly Staples Rodway, is the last indication of business concerns ahead of Thursday s Budget.

A south Taranaki iwi says continuing sewage spills into coastal waters are intolerable.
Ngāti Ruanui has told a hearing on South Taranaki District Council s proposed long term plan that the best options to improve Hāwera s wastewater system had been chosen with iwi cooperation.
