Mar. 17 A Kansas man who videoed himself inside the United States Capitol during the deadly Jan. 6 riot told investigators that a police officer shrugged his shoulders when he asked if he could go inside.
Mark Roger Rebegila, of St. Mary s, was arrested Monday by the FBI after being charged in federal court for Washington, D.C. The complaint against him, unsealed Monday, includes charges of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. ....

Proud Boy's attorneys argue Trump is to blame for deadly Capitol insurrection - U.S.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Tribune News Service) Former President Donald Trump not the rioters was responsible for the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, attorneys for a Kansas City-area Proud Boy argued in federal court Wednesday.
At a hearing on the government’s request that William “Billy” Chrestman remain incarcerated pending trial, his attorneys said the Olathe man was not a serious flight risk, chances were slim that he would attempt to obstruct the prosecution and he was not a danger to the community.
“It is an astounding thing to imagine storming the United States Capitol with sticks and flags and bear spray, arrayed against armed and highly trained law enforcement,” Chrestman’s attorneys said in a court filing opposing the prosecutors’ request. “Only someone who thought that they had an official endorsement would even attempt such a thing. ....
