F. Carol (Ammon) Curfman, 78, of Hustontown went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 1, 2021. She died after a vigorous fight with cancer for 15 months. A loving family and friends surrounded her upon her passing. As a youth, attending Church in Lewisburg with her family, Carol connected with God early in life. During her cancer treatment she grew closer to God and shared her belief in Him. For the past 40 years, she has attended the Fairview United Methodist Church.
Carol was born in Lewisburg on Aug. 17, 1942. Her two teen-aged brothers preceded her in death, A. Richard Ammon and Frederic C. Ammon, and father and mother, Keith Otto Ammon and Florence Kathryn Ammon. Of her immediate family, her sister, Linda K. Ammon of Lancaster, PA, survives her. ....

The sudden curtailing of admissions to state mental hospitals sent a âshock waveâ through the entire system, said state Sen. Emmett Hanger, R-Augusta.
That wave is expected to spread to the law enforcement system and exacerbate an already difficult relationship between policing and mental health.
Unfortunately, many patients enter the mental health system through the doors of local police and sheriffâs departments â often literally. When people experience a crisis so severe that it endangers themselves or others, law enforcement often is called.
And if hospital beds canât be found for these crisis patients, what is the alternative? ....

The $47.6 billion fiscal year 2022 state budget contains a number of items of importance to the hilltowns as outlined by two lawmakers for the region, Sen. Adam Hinds, D-Pittsfield, and Rep. Natalie Blais, D-Sunderland.
“I think we work really effectively together in terms of tag-teaming in the State House,” Blais said.
The budget, for the fiscal year that began July 1, was signed into law July 16 by Gov. Charlie Baker.
“We go about budgets and every policy debate with a real eye on rural communities,” Hinds said, noting that the Western Massachusetts delegation works together as a team. ....
