Newberry standoff ends peacefully | News, Sports, Jobs - Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the man held up his apartment at the Newberry Estates for several hours Friday night surrendered to authorities about midnight and was in Williamsport Police custody. No one was hurt, police said.
Authorities unofficially reported Friday night that only one child – not two – had been held hostage by a gunman in an apartment unit, and that the child was safely released.
After an extended period of time talking with negotiators, the gunman, who lives in the unit at the Newberry Estates, 2500 Federal Ave., city, freed the child.
Professional negotiators arrived at the complex and began communicating with the gunman by phone about 7 p.m. ....

A man who was among those selling heroin laced with another drug that caused more than 50 overdoses in two days throughout Lycoming County four years ago was sentenced Wednesday to 17 1/2 years in federal prison.
Wayne S. Davidson, 27, was sentenced by U.S. Middle District Judge Matthew W. Brann to 210 months and supervised release of four years following prison sentence.
Davidson and three other men pleaded guilty in October of distributing heroin and carfentanil, a horse tranquilizer used to mix in with heroin, leading to overdoses. Davidson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute 100 grams and more of heroin and carfentanil resulting in serious bodily injury. ....

Child pornography charges filed for Jersey Shore man
Zachary Ernest Kiess, 20, of 471 Kiess Hill Road has been charged with child pornography after he allegedly had numerous pictures and videos of nude minors on his phone.
The charges stem from a search of Kiess’ phone in November of 2019, which allegedly yielded several photos and videos of nude females that Kiess obtained in December of 2018, according to William Weber, a detective with the Lycoming County District Attorney Office.
The minors allegedly involved in the video were identified as friends and schoolmates of Kiess, and were 17 years old when the video was taken. ....
