Slumdog Millionaire and the opening ceremony of the London Olympics – announced today that he is set to helm a six-part TV series focusing on the Sex Pistols and the band’s almost three-year blaze of filth and scandal.

Pistol. And, given the setting of the nascent punk scene, the cast announced so far is a who’s who of late-1970s punk music. The Pistols themselves have been cast from among relative newcomers: actor Toby Wallace will play Jones, while John Lydon (ie Johnny Rotten), Sid Vicious, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock will be played by Anson Boon, Louis Partridge, Jacob Slater and Fabien Frankel respectively.
