Farm law protests: Smriti Irani accuses Rahul Gandhi of declaring war on people

Union minister Smriti Irani on Friday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of “declaring war” on the people of the country. Her comment came after Gandhi warned that the protests against the farming laws will spread if the government doesn’t find a solution to the crisis.
“Rahul Gandhi today declared war on the people of India,” Irani said at a press briefing. “He said that if his political stand is not supported by the PM [Prime Minister] of our country, then cities will burn! I appeal to every Indian citizen to ensure that Rahul Gandhi’s call for violence is met with sustained peace.” ....

The Delhi Police on Friday said that 44 people, including a man who attacked a police officer with sword, have been arrested for violence at Singhu border.
Earlier in the day, tensions arose at the Singhu border after a group of people, who claim to be locals, barged into the protest site of farmers, and vandalised it. The farmers retaliated and stones were pelted by both sides. Police used tear gas and batons to resolve the situation. ....

NEW DELHI: Two of India’s richest men have landed in an unlikely controversy over farming laws, becoming targets of protesters who allege the tycoons have benefited from their close links to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
For weeks, tens of thousands of farmers have camped outside the nation’s capital, demanding the withdrawal of recently passed legislation they say, without evidence, was designed to allow billionaires such as Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani to enter farming. The tycoons say they have no such interest. More than 1,500 phone towers of Ambani’s wireless carrier were vandalized last month and some farmers called for a boycott of their businesses. ....
