"Spare Change For Real Change" campaign aims to help homeless

BILLINGS - A campaign in Billings aims to help homeless people by making donations more accessible to them.
There was a need for hats, gloves, some of those small items, and then we noticed people were starting to put them around trees and benches, stuff like that, Resource Outreach Coordinator for Billings Improvement District Kody Christensen-Linton said.
The Billings Improvement District has set up green boxes in the downtown area to help collect donations for homeless people. Staff with the campaign say there s about 1,200 at risk individuals just in the Billings area, and the items and money collected have a good chance of making a difference. ....

Proposed state housing policies that seek to brand ownership of single-family homes in Southern California as exclusionary are making it more difficult to solve the region’s housing woes, some local officials say but supporters are defending the policies as necessary to correct historical biases in the market.
The officials, who are regional council members of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), say the agency is focusing too much on social justice and equity measures while addressing local housing needs. SCAG is responsible for implementing state affordable housing mandates for 191 cities throughout the region. ....

Penticton city council is standing resolute on its decision to shutter the emergency winter shelter at 352 Winnipeg Street in spite of an ultimatum issued by the province.
The decision raised the ire of B.C. Minister responsible for housing, David Eby and a resulting war of words advanced to action this week with a letter to the city from B.C. Housing CEO Shane Ramsey.
Ramsey says Penticton Mayor John Vassilaki “indicated support” for a renewal of the temporary use permit at a meeting on Feb. 3, prompting an application to extend the permit from B.C. Housing the next day. ....
