Marijuana Doctors Oppose Florida HB 1455 to Cap THC Levels


The latest Republican attempt to sabotage the industry involves the party s never-ending obsession with THC levels. A bill sponsored by state Rep. Spencer Roach of North Fort Myers would restrict THC levels in cannabis flower to 10 percent. The bill would also restrict other cannabis products, such as concentrates, to 60 percent. A similar bill failed to pass last year.
THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid that gets people high, but it also is effective in alleviating pain and managing symptoms of cancer, multiple sclerosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, Crohn s disease, nausea, anxiety, depression, and insomnia, among other conditions.
Miami doctor Herve Damas, who is certified by the state to recommend cannabis to patients, is one voice in a chorus of doctors who oppose the bill. ....

GAMBLING ISSUES ON TABLE: The House Commerce Committee will take up two bills (PCB COM 21-03 and PCB COM 21-05) that would create a state “Gaming Control Commission” and do away with a requirement that many pari-mutuel facilities conduct live horse racing or jai alai games to offer more-lucrative cardrooms. TELEHEALTH AT ISSUE: The House Health & Human Services Committee will consider a proposal (HB 247), filed by Rep. Tom Fabricio, R-Miramar, and Rep. AFP-FL backs telehealth bill with ‘Care You Can Call On’ initiative

Americans for Prosperity-Florida launched a statewide initiative Monday in support of a bill that would update the state’s telemedicine laws.
The “Care You Can Call On” initiative to highlights a bill by Reps.

The measure would allow providers to prescribe controlled substances to patients during telehealth visits. That includes prescriptions for treating psychiatric disorders, inpatient treatment at licensed medical facilities, treatment for patients in hospice care and treatment for nursing home residents.
As part of the “Care You Can Call On” initiative, AFP-FL plans to spotlight a number of Floridians who have benefited from telehealth services. ....
