PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii – Capt. Richard Jones relieved Capt. Gregory Burton as the 48th commander of Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) during a change of command ceremony held June 4 onboard Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. On the grounds of the shipyard’s historic Building One, the physically-distanced ceremony, along with a video livestream, provided friends, family and colleagues the opportunity to witness the time-honored naval tradition.
Burton, who has served as shipyard commander since July 2017, expressed his gratitude to the workforce for their perseverance and dedication to the mission throughout his command tour. Though many challenges presented themselves over the past four years, Burton emphasized how the workforce’s resiliency and sense of Aloha helped overcome obstacles and pushed the Nō Ka ‘Oi shipyard towards their best performance in decades. ....

DVIDS - News - Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard says Aloha 'Oe to Senior Civilian Kaipo Crowell

On April 29, the shipyard ohana gathered to show their appreciation and aloha to one of their own as he departed for retirement. After 38 years of faithful service to the Department of the Navy, Code 2300 Nuclear Engineering and Planning Officer and Senior Executive Service civilian Kaipo Crowell officially hung up his dosimeter at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF).
To adhere to shipyard COVID mitigations, the planning committee set up a meet-and-greet outside of Building 9 to allow the workforce an opportunity to celebrate Kaipo s retirement on their way into work. A physically-distanced line spanned along Paul Hamilton Avenue as well-wishers extended their congratulations to Kaipo and his wife, Peggy. There were many laughs and tears as generations of the shipyard workforce stacked lei upon lei around his neck. ....

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii – In the last decade, there has been an increased focus on the region covering the vast area from the west coast of the United States to the west coast of India - known as the Indo-Pacific. This region covers the most area of any of the Department of Defense’s six combatant commands and is a vital driver of the global economy.
The Indo-Pacific includes the world’s busiest international sea lanes and nine of the ten largest ports supporting global commerce. While many think goods are mostly moved by air cargo, in fact more than 80% of the volume of international trade in goods travel throughout the world’s oceans requiring free and open sea lanes to maintain the global economy. Specifically in the Indo-Pacific, one-third of the world’s maritime shipping, valued at more than $3 trillion, flow through the sea lanes in the South China Sea yearly. ....
