Four additional Royal Canadian Legion branches in SDG will be receiving financial support from the federal government to cope with pandemic-related expenses and revenue shortfalls.
Stormont Dundas South Glengarry MP Eric Duncan released the information on Monday afternoon, indicating legion branches in Morrisburg, Iroquois, Winchester, and Finch will each receive $10,845 through the Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund. ....

More SD&G Legions receive emergency cash


LONG SAULT – More emergency cash for Royal Canadian Legion branches has been doled out locally.
The Lancaster and Long Sault branches are both getting $10,845, while the branch in Chesterville is getting $7,449 since it was able to reopen in July 2020.
The money will mostly cover overhead and operating expenses.
Long Sault Legion President Randy Robertson says the money will allow them to “pay the bills necessary to keep the doors open, once we can reopen safely,” and also do some upgrades to the bar.
Lancaster branch President Bill Bresee is appreciative of the money because “there was no revenue coming in.” ....

Four Royal Canadian Legion branches in Essex County are among those which received funding under the first round of the federal government’s Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund.
Each Legion branch in Amherstburg, Kingsville, Lakeshore and Essex was given the maximum amount available, $10,845.

Branch 25 will receive the funding to assist with operational costs during COVID-19.
The money comes from the Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund, part of Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan to protect jobs, provide emergency support and keep businesses afloat through the pandemic.
“The global COVID-19 pandemic has left no one unaffected.  Our veteran support agencies highlighted the need for increased supports during the pandemic and we rapidly responded by creating the Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund. I want to thank everyone at Legion Branch 25 for their continued hard work in ensuring veterans are supported during this challenging time,” said MP Terry Sheehan. ....
