MARION, Ill. (KFVS) - The Marion VA Health Care System announced that veterans will begin to receive the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, March 10.
Trials of the Janssen (J&J) vaccine showed it was more than 85 percent effective in preventing severe to critical infection from COVID-19 after at least 28 days of it being administered.
The Marion VA said the addition of a third vaccine is welcome news.
“The Marion VA Health Care System is eager to be able to offer a third highly effective vaccine to more Veterans,” said Public Affairs Officer Todd Wright. “This one-dose vaccine will help us reach our ultimate goal of offering COVID-19 vaccination to all Veterans and employees who want to be vaccinated.” ....

A 26 year-old Mandalay resident, Ko Zaw Myo, was shot dead while assisting anti-coup student protesters running from riot police and soldiers in his neighborhood on Friday.
Together with some other local residents, he attempted to block a road to hinder security forces loyal to the military regime as they hunted down engineering student protesters, a neighbor said. ....

Toxic food making National Guard servicemen sick, whistleblower reveals

An insider with the Michigan National Guard is reporting that the meals being served to servicemen are subpar and dangerous.
On Sunday, 75 meals were thrown out after “metal shavings” were found in them. Other meals arrived undercooked, putting servicemen at potential risk of food poisoning.
The unnamed whistleblower told
7 Action News in Detroit that these issues are not isolated. Food quality is poor all across the board, which is a sad testament to the treatment of our soldiers.
“Yesterday, for instance, there were 74 different meals found with raw beef in them,” the sergeant said. “Just yesterday, the lunches were, soldiers had found metal shavings in their food.” ....

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - The University of Southern Mississippi earned a top 50 spot in the U.S. News & World Report ranking schools with the best online bachelor’s degree program for veterans.
According to the organization, the report recognizes schools that help veterans reduce the cost of school.
“The university has just gone a long way to make it accessible and to adapt to the interests and needs of military students,” said Jeff Hammond, director of Military Student Affairs at USM. ....
