Officials testify against health department consolidations

COLUMBUS Area officials went to Columbus on Thursday to express their opposition to a proposal calling for a feasibility study on the merits of consolidating small town health departments around Ohio with county health departments.
They testified before the Ohio Senate Health Committee on the proposal, which is in the House version of the next biennial state budget. If enacted, it could possibly lead to the closure of the New Philadelphia City Health Department.
The group included New Philadelphia Mayor Joel Day; Health Commissioner Vickie Ionno;, Nicole Bache, director of nursing for the health department; Law Director Marvin Fete; and Council President Don Kemp. ....

New Philadelphia council approves stadium lease agreement
The two side have been negotiating the lease since last fall.
The agreement has a new section which spells out what happens in the event of an emergency, such as a pandemic, where closing the stadium is necessary to ensure public health and safety.
It grants that authority to the mayor, and requires collaboration between both parties on all issues involving closure, which means the school board is free to bring any regulations to the mayor which it feels mandate closure.
The lease also says that it can be modified if agreed to in writing by both sides. ....

Talks continue on lease for Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium

NEW PHILADELPHIA City council members and officials with New Philadelphia City Schools held separate meetings this week to talk about a new lease for Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium, with discussions continuing to focus on public access to the facility.
Meanwhile, the school district is looking at making repairs to the stadium this summer to address problems with crumbling brickwork and a boiler that needs replaced.
Council s finance committee discussed the lease on Monday.
Councilman Rob Maurer, who chairs the committee, said the issue should be expedited because of the needed repairs at the stadium.
The two sides have been discussing a new 50-year lease since October. The stadium is owned by the school district but the land is owned by the city. ....

Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium lease still to be approved

NEW PHILADELPHIA Council and New Philadelphia City Schools appear to be no closer to signing a new lease for Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium, with the two sides divided over a clause in the proposed agreement that would keep two lanes in the stadium open for use by the public.
Council and school officials discussed a second draft of the lease at a council finance committee meeting on Monday.
The stick point seemed to be Clause VII, on public use of the stadium.
At all times, the general public shall have free and open access to the track at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium for exercise purposes, specifically track lanes seven (7) and eight (8) at a minimum, which may not be restricted by the board except when Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium is hosting competitions with other school districts, track and field practice during the traditional school track season, and graduation ceremonies, it reads. ....
