Dew Tour to return to Copper Mountain Resort in December

Mountain Dew and The Adventure Sports Network Group announced Tuesday, May 25, that the annual Winter Dew Tour competition and festival will return to Copper Mountain Resort from Dec. 16-19.
The event’s return to Copper Mountain comes after it was canceled for the 2020-21 winter in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The most recent Winter Dew Tour took place in February 2020 and was the event’s debut at Copper Mountain Resort after years at Breckenridge Ski Resort. The mid-December date is also a return to the event’s traditional calendar spot in Breckenridge. ....

Winter Dew Tour Returns to Copper Mountain

Winter Dew Tour snowboard and ski competition and festival will return to Copper Mountain, Colo. December 16-19, 2021, after foregoing the 2020 winter competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The four-day Winter Dew Tour will include the world’s best male and female skiers and snowboarders competing in individual halfpipe, slopestyle and para snowboard competitions and a calendar of fan-based activities. Spectators will have a front row seat to the action out of Copper’s Center Village where the event footprint and sponsor activations will take place. Slopestyle will be held in Woodward Copper’s Central Park, an elite-level Woodward Mountain Park facility, and the halfpipe events will conveniently sit just above the base of Center Village. ....

Copper Mountain Resort embraces uphill skiing with race series, daytime routes

When Copper Mountain Resort President and General Manager Dustin Lyman saw the level of demand for uphill and backcountry skiing last March, he knew Copper needed to add an uphill race series to the resort’s lineup.
Since Lyman began leading the resort at the start of the 2018-19 winter season, the Boulder native and former National Football League player has leaned into the resort’s niche as “The Athlete’s Mountain.” Along with serving as the U.S. Alpine Ski Team’s official training site and as the elite training and competition venue via Woodward Copper Mountain Park for park and pipe sports, Lyman believes uphill is a part of Copper’s athlete-first brand. ....

Spring skiing is such a different experience than deep winter skiing that it honestly should be thought of as a second season. While the winter months are characterized by intense storm cycles, freezing temperatures, and mercifully limited daylight granted the payoff is incredible powder days spring is all about long sunny days, groomed runs and parks, and slushy afternoon slopes and maybe a few fresh powder days, because…spring.
The contrast between a week spent at a ski area during the December holidays versus March and April could not be starker. For starters, you’ve got an entire winter’s worth of snow depth to ski on providing great coverage. And the frothing crowds that throng to the mountains have had their fill (or at least mellowed out). Plus, the sun stays high up ....

Nothing would keep the Tointighs off the slopes.
Not the difficulty of making reservations when and where they wanted; not the longer lines for rentals and lifts; not the lack of indoor eateries on the mountain. Not wearing masks everywhere.
“It’s about the memories and the experience,” said Keli Tointigh, a mother of five from Chickasa, Oklahoma. “Shame on us if we missed a year.”
