Chicago, June 09, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) Gov. Phil Scott signed the NLC into law in the state of Vermont on June 7, 2021. The compact allows registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) to have one multistate license, with the ability to practice in person or via telehealth, in both the primary state of residence and other NLC jurisdictions.
Vermont is the 36th jurisdiction to have enacted the NLC. The NLC will be implemented in Vermont on Feb. 1, 2022. Starting on this date, Vermont residents will be able to apply for a multistate license and nurses residing in other states who hold a multistate license will be able to begin practicing in Vermont. ....

RUTLAND An unlicensed fight promoter in Rutland has been ordered to pay $22,500 after promoting fights between children as young as 6 years old and violating the governor’s COVID-19 executive order.
Lauren Hibbert, director of the Vermont’s Office of Professional Regulation, said it was the largest administrative penalty she has ever seen.
Randy Felion, who has used the business names “Fight Night Promotions” and “VTBeefs,” is not registered as a fighter or promoter with the state or the National Boxing Registry, but he has held a total of eight mixed martial arts events between May 2019 and June 2020. ....

Unemployment insurance bill will increase tax burden for Vermont businesses
Without legislative intervention, Vermont businesses will experience an enormous increase in the unemployment insurance tax rate as a result of COVID-19-related claims. A Senate committee has passed a bill to delay that increase, but at the same time also voted to add significant new benefits that will further increase costs to employers.
The Unemployment Trust Fund is paid through a UI tax on business owners. Pre-COVID, the fund had a robust $500 million balance. The tax is calculated in five schedule rates, with Schedule 1 the lowest. Higher rates kick in if the trust fund balance decreases, which it has by more than 50% due to pandemic-related business shutdowns and resulting increases in unemployment. Without legislative intervention, the resulting UI tax rate jump to Schedule 5 would cost a majority of businesses $186.00 per employee, more than tripling the current contribution of $58.00 per e ....
