Driver accused in wrong-way crash faces felony DUI charges

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) A Massachusetts man accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 91 and causing a head-on crash that injured five people is now facing four felony drunken driving charges.
Bernard J. McDonald, 65, of Westborough, Massachusetts, was expected be released from Brattleboro Memorial Hospital on Monday and arraigned later in the day, Windham County Deputy State’s Attorney Steven Brown told the Brattleboro Reformer.
McDonald had been arraigned on 15 charges last week. His lawyer pleaded not guilty on his behalf.

He’s now facing two counts of driving under the influence with serious injury resulting and two counts of driving under the influence with his alcohol blood count above the legal limit with injury resulting. His lawyer declined to comment on the charges. ....

BRATTLEBORO The Massachusetts man accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 91 on Sunday, Dec. 13, causing a head-on collision and injuring five people, now faces four drunk driving charges.
Bernard J. McDonald, 65, of Westborough, Mass., is scheduled to be released from Brattleboro Memorial Hospital on Monday and will be arraigned at Windham criminal court later in the day, according to Windham County Deputy State s Attorney Steven Brown.
McDonald had been arraigned on 15 charges in absentia with the consent of his court-appointed lawyer last week so that court officials could impose conditions on his movements after release from the hospital. He was ordered not to drive nor consume alcoholic beverages. ....

VSP updates wrong-way driver crash with multiple injuries in Dummerston

Vermont State Police Investigators have developed additional information about this incident: Responding to a 911 call reporting the wrong-way driver on the interstate, Vermont State Police Trooper Ryan Miller stopped his fully marked state police Ford Explorer cruiser, with lights and siren activated, blocking part of the northbound travel lane of I-91 in the area of mile marker 18. The vehicle traveling south in the northbound lane subsequently struck the cruiser, which sustained only minor damage. Trooper Miller was uninjured. He then crossed to the southbound lanes and continued to follow the wrong-way driver on the other side of the highway. (See details below) ....
