The plywood barricade he installed was the only thing that limited damage to a broken ranch slider, window and some minor water inside.
“If I didn’t do that, it would have been much worse,” he said. ....

State of emergency lifts in Wellington as waves die down on outgoing tide

Resident Ewan Pohe said it was only a plywood barricade he put over the window of his downstairs flat that meant damage from a wave blast was limited to a broken ranch slider door and a small amount of water inside.

She managed to get to the safety of a fence top as the wave subsided.
