Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal does not “speak for India”, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has declared after Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan objected to Mr. Kejriwal’s claim that a highly infectious variant of COVID-19 affecting children, came from Singapore.

NEW DELHI: Singapore on Wednesday appreciated the Indian government s crystal clear clarification on Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal s remarks on a new Covid-19 variant and said it reserved the right to invoke the provision of domestic law to check misinformation on some of the comments made by him.
Singapore High Commissioner to India Simon Wong said his country now wants to put the unfortunate chapter behind and focus on collectively dealing with the pandemic.
Kejriwal s claim on Tuesday about a new Covid-19 strain detected in Singapore sparked off a diplomatic row, with the Southeast Asian country on Wednesday calling in the Indian envoy and conveying to him its strong objections to the unfounded assertions . ....

PM Modi's G7 visit to U.K. cancelled due to COVID-19 crisis


The G7 summit is scheduled to be held in Cornwall
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the G7 summit in the United Kingdom next month, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Tuesday.
“While appreciating the invitation to the Prime Minister by U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson to attend the G7 Summit as a Special Invitee, given the prevailing COVID situation, it has been decided that the Prime Minister will not attend the summit in person,” said spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.
The announcement came days after External Affairs Minister Jaishankar returned from London where he had gone to participate in a ministerial meeting of the G7. However, the entire delegation was ultimately quarantined after two of the officials with the Minister were found to be COVID-19 positive. ....
