Dhaka and New Delhi will hold a series of high-level meetings in February ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Bangladesh on March 26-27 to join the golden jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh’s independence.
The upcoming visit of the Indian prime minister also incidentally marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and India and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujuibur Rahman.
Modi’s first visit to Bangladesh will be his first tour of any foreign country during the Covid-19 pandemic. His visit was to take place in March, 2020, but it had been postponed due to the pandemic. ....

ISLAMABAD: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has declined to visit India and become the chief guest at its Republic Day celebrations, due in the last week of this month.
He was supposed to be first British premier, who had accepted the invitation in 29 years after John Major. The reason cited for calling off his schedule is spike in mutated coronavirus cases in the United Kingdom and India. However, farmers and Sikh leaders are claiming that their agitation is the actual reason for the British premier changing his mind. ....

Sri Lanka, India discuss special zones for pharmaceutical & tourism
Sri Lanka has sought Coronavirus vaccines from India and the two countries had also discussed investments in infrastructure, energy, pharmaceutical and hotels, Foreign Ministers of the two countries said.
India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Foreign Minister yesterday morning. He said Sri Lanka had expressed interest in getting vaccines from India.
A meeting with the business community is being held today.
“There are many proposals under discussion, including in infrastructure, energy, connectivity,” Minister Jaishankar said making statement with Minister Gunewardene.
“Their early implementation is obviously in mutual interest and would definitely accelerate Sri Lanka’s economic recovery. Let me stress that Indian business is strongly interested in investing in Sri Lanka ....
