Beijing book fair to highlight CPC centennial anniversary - Life & Culture News

BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) The 34th Beijing Book Fair, which highlights celebrations for the centennial founding anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), is slated to open on March 31.
A special theme exhibition area will display quality books paying tribute to the 100th anniversary of the CPC s founding, the Publishers Association of China said.
The book fair will involve nearly 700 publishing houses and cultural institutions and showcase close to 400,000 various sorts of books, the association said.
Over 200 cultural events, including book launches, author talks and forums, will be organized offline, together with an online livestreaming event for promoting book sales. Enditem ....

IPA Commends Beijing's Passage of a Copyright Law Amendment

Li Pengyi, speaking to IPA as a spokesman for the Publishers Association of China, is quoted, saying. “I think the new law will, from a legal perspective, provide Chinese publishing enterprises and authors with more powerful and professional support, and help them protect their rights and interests more comprehensively.”
As reported by Cissy Zhou for China Macro Economy, copyright proponents may feel they dodged a bullet on one provision that reportedly was removed in the amendment’s final draft. Zhou writes, “The proposed provision within Article 4, which covers literary and artistic properties as well as scientific works such as computer programs, was intended to prevent copyright owners from hindering the ‘normal distribution of works’ and ‘harming the public interest. ” ....
