Advertisement Vestas has announced that it has signed the first EnVentus order in the Eastern Europe region for the 126 MW DTEK Tiligulska project in Ukraine, building on a track record of 660 MW already installed by Vestas in Ukraine. The Tiligulska project is being developed by DTEK Renewables, for whom Vestas has also delivered three previous projects in Ukraine. This contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of 21 V162-6.0 MW wind turbines, alongside a long-term 20-year active output management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement, enabling optimal power production throughout the project lifetime. As many of you know, I grew up in Toronto, where winters can be brutally cold. Like most people who live in northern U.S. states, I’m accustomed to driving on snowy, icy roads. But then, roads in the north are plowed, sanded and salted when there’s snowfall. With rare exception, the roads here in sunny San Antonio, Texas, do not see that kind of maintenance. Wind turbine market leader Vestas has revealed the first investment made by its venture fund with a stake in Swedish wooden wind tower start-up Modvion. Modvion builds wind towers from sections of specially prepared wood laminate panels. As well as being lighter, the modular nature means transporting the towers to the construction sites is far easier. As onshore wind turbines increase in size beyond the 6-megawatt mark, hub heights and towers will need to grow too. If successfully commercialized, Modvion’s solution would solve the transport problem, while also replacing carbon intensive-steel with what could be a carbon-negative alternative. No details on the size of the deal have been released but Vestas previously told ....

In the announcement, the company stated a total of 450 positions across the state are being cut with 120 of those in Pueblo, accounting for 15% of the workforce. The wind energy industry in USA has grown tremendously in recent years, which has increased our factoriesâ capacity and expanded our service business. With a larger fleet under service and lower demand in the near-term, we are therefore consolidating our setup in Colorado to ensure we can cater for our service businessâ needs, and are structured in the right way to ramp up efficiently once wind turbine demand requires us to. ....
