After struggling to explain to non-Hoosiers what May and the Indianapolis 500 means to our state, I created a phrase to describe our spring giddiness: May is “Indiana Christmas,” full of cherished traditions and unwritten laws, spanning across generations.

Scott Dixon has his fourth career Indianapolis 500 pole, tying him for second all-time. This one did not come easily.
The Fast Nine session began slowly, with each of the first four cars to go out putting in an average speed at 230.6 MPH or below. That would be slower than the fastest lap of the day for all of the top four qualifiers. When Rinus VeeKay began his run, the pace picked up quickly.
VeeKay and teammate Ed Carpenter were the only two Chevrolet drivers in the Fast Nine field. Each managed first laps in the 232.3 MPH range, nearly a full MPH over the then-best time of Ryan Hunter-Reay. Each held on to finish their runs at 231.5 MPH. With teammates of the final two cars, from Chip Ganassi Racing and Andretti Autosport, already failing to show real speed, it looked like it could be enough ....

Scott Dixon wins Indy 500 pole ahead of Herta, VeeKay

Racing driver Simona de Silvestro is returning to the Indy 500 with the female-led Paretta Autosport, which aims to be the first team run and primarily staffed by women to compete in the race.
Scott Dixon saw his team tinkering with his race car but asked no questions. When his three teammates made their Indianapolis 500 qualifying attempts, he didn t want to hear their feedback.
