Ella V. “Sally” Bonar, 92, of Byesville, died Wednesday (May 5, 2021) at her home. She was born January 6, 1929 near Fairview, daughter of the late Charles Gray and Atha (Betts) Gray. Sally graduated from Old Washington High School in 1946. She worked at March Electric and retired in 1992 after 36 years. She was a member of the FOE #386 Auxiliary. She attended Old Washington United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Gray and Lawrence Gray; three sisters, Edith Redd, infant sister Edna, and infant sister Elsie; two half-sisters; and two half-brothers. She is survived by her husband, Neil E. Bonar, whom she married December 19, 1969; two stepchildren, David (Denise) Bonar of Trinity AL and Beverly Ann (Tom) Thompson of Wayne Lakes; two nieces, Betty (Larry) Parry of Lore City and Pam (Jamie) Rice of Warsaw; three nephews, Arthur (Eloise) Gray of Salesville, Paul Gray of Senecaville ....

Commissioners Matt Aultman, Mike Stegall, and Larry Holmes were all present. The meeting began with the approval of Resolution (R-48-2021) which transfers $10,200 to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office for maintenance and repair fees, and attorney fees. ....

It is believed that he was born in the house directly north of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, which is currently the home of Jean Gilbert. Did you know that Arcanum’s Harry Stutz, who founded the Stutz Manufacturing Company in Dayton, entered a car in the first Indy 500 in 1911, and driver Gil Anderson finished a very respectable 11th, for an American car? The Stutz car also served as the Indianapolis 500 pace car in 1912. Stutz built the car in five weeks, which he named Bearcat. Stutz was born in 1876 on a farm to Henry K. Stutz and Elizabeth Schneider. He was an automobile manufacture, entrepreneur, self-taught engineer, and innovator of the automobile industry. Arcanum can be proud of what Harry Stutz accomplished. ....
