Used dentures; huge sundaes and other facts from Wooster's history


In the 1940s and ‘50s, Tommy Glasco had a second-hand store on East Liberty Street.
Just inside the front door was a glass jar filled with used dentures and anyone who needed new choppers could just step inside and try the used false teeth on for size. Or maybe swap old dentures for new ones, or for something else in the Wooster store.
As long as Tommy was in business, the denture jar was on display.

For a period of time, Wooster had two proud entries in the Guiness Book of World Records. One was local celebrity Vernon Craig (“Komar the Hindu Fakir”) who on July 24, 1971 spent 25 hours, 20 minutes and 15 seconds lying on a bed of nails in the front window of the Wooster Chamber of Commerce offices on the square. ....

The Fairfield City Council met last night and revised the liquor ordinance to clarify definitions and descriptions for establishments selling alcohol. Several appointments were confirmed, as well, including Bryan Williams to the Police Pension Board; Andrew Miller to the Fire Pension Board; Cody Atteberry, Mark Turner, and Nicki Roethe to the Zoning Board; and Carrie Halbert to the Recreation Committee. In his report last night, Fairfield Mayor Mike Dreith said the City Band will perform this season, and their first concert is scheduled for June 13th. He also said the three dogs involved in the attack last month that injured city worker Robert Kamp had been ordered euthanized by Judge Michael Molt. 56-year-old Wayne City resident Jerry Desch was taken to a hospital yesterday morning after being struck on East Main Street in Fairfield. State police say IDOT workers were patching holes on East Main just west of Southeast Second, and Desch was climbing on to an end loader when he was stru ....
