Suicide prevention: Thomas Worthington junior Andrea Nadolny s mural puts issue on display
A Worthington Schools student hopes her latest project will bring attention to suicide and mental health. 
Andrea Nadolny, a Thomas Worthington High School junior, has partnered with the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation, the Worthington Parks & Recreation Department and others in the development of research, infographics and murals to bring awareness and promote education on the issue. 
“I want to make people feel like they’re not alone,” Nadolny said. “I wanted to make sure people here in my community and locally had resources that were easy to find, accessible and really concise so you could understand what’s going on and how to get help.” ....

Just weeks after making the arduous trek from Granby, Connecticut, to Worthington in 1803, city founders established a subscription library for the community.
Although in its early days, there were no actual staff members, for nearly 125 years, Worthington Libraries has employed people who worked hard to make the library profession, the institution and the city better.
During Women’s History Month, learn more about just a few of the women who made Worthington Libraries the nationally recognized library system it is today. 
The Fortnightly Club, a women’s Shakespeare study club, assumed management of the Worthington Reading Room and Library in November 1903. The next month, Mrs. B.C. McCullough, a club member, became the library’s first paid employee. In 1906, she oversaw the library’s move from space it occupied on the south side of the Kilbourne Building into rooms over Leasure ....

A total of 31 of Ohio s 251 library systems received a star rating in the Index of Public Library Service, which measures circulation, visits and more.
Ohioans love their libraries, at least according to one recently published national analysis of circulation and visits.
A total of 31 of Ohio s 251 library systems including five from central Ohio received a star rating in the Index of Public Library Service, the 13th annual such report released by the Library Journal, an American trade publication for librarians founded in 1876.
Of the 5,608 U.S. libraries qualified to be rated on the index, just 262 received a star rating. Ohio s 31 star-rated library systems ranks second to New York, which tallied 34. Iowa had the third-most star-rated libraries with 18. ....

YALSA announces 2021 William C. Morris finalists


CHICAGO – The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) , a division of the American Library Association (ALA), selected five books as finalists for the 2021William C. Morris Award , which honors the year’s best books written for young adults by a previously unpublished author.
YALSA will name the 2021 award winner virtually at the  Youth Media Awards  on January 25, 2021, during the American Library Association’s virtual  Midwinter Meeting .  Registration  is open now through January 15, 2021. 
The 2021 finalists are:
