This weekend was a solid one for new Dancehall and Reggae releases. Whether you were keeping an ear out for the next big summer scorcher, or just browsing ....
2 hours ago Clarks Originals unveiled the full 10-minute mini-documentary today on YouTube, after initially announcing on its Instagram page on Sunday that the video, which features Koffee, Protoje, Sevana, Lila Iké, The NoMaddz, England footballer Raheem Sterling, and British artist M1llionz, would be released this Friday. On Sunday, the company drew the ire of particularly the Gaza Nation, after they previewed snippets of the documentary, with well-known Clarks booty champions Vybz Kartel, Super Cat, Popcaan, and Jahvillani “missing in action”. Today’s move seems to have been undertaken in a bid to appease Dancehall fans who accused them of disrespecting the men who are behind the popularity of the footwear and high sales among Jamaicans across the world. Kartel’s name and song were mentioned a few times by Koffee, Lila, Sterling, and Protoje who also made several historical references to the boots in the Dancehall space. ....
Vybz Kartel With this month marking seven years since Dancehall titan Vybz Kartel was sentenced to life imprisonment, we reflect on his dominant force and studio contributions to the genre. The King of Dancehall reinvents himself so often that it’s difficult to compare albums from one year to the next. Nevertheless, we have taken on the task of ranking the Worl’ Boss’ 15 studio and compilation albums. The process relied on a couple of rating systems including peak Billboard chart positions, tracks that received heavy airplay throughout the years along with all-time fan-favorites and crowd-pleasers. Here are Vybz Kartel’s albums, ranked from worst to best. ....

It’s no secret the Worl’ Boss has a strong bond with his mother, throughout his incarceration she has been very vocal about what she believes is her son’s innocence. Mrs. P insists her son, Adidja Azim Palmer is a good person and was no way responsible for the death of Clive “Lizard” Williams, who he was found guilty of murdering in 2014 and was subsequently, dealt a life sentence. ....
Vybz Kartel Putting in the work since 1993, Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel finally “bussed” in 2001 as he honed his craft under the tutelage of the legend Bounty Killer. He initially caught attention as a ghost-writer for the Warlord, followed by collabs such as Gal Clown and Girls Like Mine, but it wasn’t until a so-called ‘gun tune’, Gun Clown, that he broke out as a solo artist amid increased concerns in the early 2000s that violent lyrics were contributing to crime in Jamaica. Fast forward 20 years and Dancehall is once again being scapegoated as a factor in the island’s crime woes, but key players have been steadfast in the genre’s defense. Mavado, Masicka, Bounty Killer, and Cham have hit back at Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ scathing rebuke of “violent” dancehall music in Parliament last week. ....
