Avon launches CH15 respiratory protection hood - Defence Notes

Avon Protection has brought to market a new lightweight portable hood that gives the wearer at least 15 minutes of protection against CBRN threats.
The single-size CH15 was developed in response to an emerging requirement from specialist users for ‘instant protection from all CBRN materials when in a live threat scenario’, Avon noted in a statement. There was particular input from the Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office in the US DoD.
Justin Hine, global product manager at Avon Protection, described the CE-approved CH15 as ‘a low-profile, lightweight, one-size-fits-all solution that is small and light enough to be carried at all times’. ....

Israeli-UAE partnership to develop C-UAS solution - Digital Battlespace

A new MoU between Israel Aerospace Industries and Edge symbolises the close relationship between Israel and the UAE.
Efforts in the United Arab Emirates to develop counter-UAS (C-UAS) capabilities continue to take shape, after defence conglomerate Edge announced a strategic agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).
The two parties agreed to develop an advanced solution ‘tailored to the UAE market, with wider ranging benefits for the MENA [Middle East and North Africa] region and beyond’, according to an 11 March statement from IAI.
SIGN4L (the EW subsidiary of Edge) will work with IAI on the project, which signifies a deeper level of defence and security cooperation between Israel and the UAE since relations between the two countries were normalised in September 2020. ....

India tests fuel cell-based AIP for submarines - Naval Warfare

Domestically developed capability generates hydrogen on board.
The Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved an ‘important milestone’ in development of an indigenous air-independent propulsion (AIP) system for submarines after testing a land-based prototype, the official Press Information Bureau (PIB) announced on 9 March.
The system ‘was operated in endurance mode and max power mode as per user requirements’, the PIB added, noting that it has reached sufficient maturity to be fitted on ‘target vessels’.
A fuel cell-based AIP capability is being developed by the DRDO-run Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL), in partnership with Larsen & Toubro and Thermax. The system is unique ‘as the hydrogen is generated onboard’, according to the PIB. ....

Brazilian Army approves 7.62mm IA2 rifle - Land Warfare

A 7.62mm version of IA2 will join the 5.56mm variant that is already in use with the Brazilian Army.
The Department of Science and Technology in the Brazilian Army has approved the 7.62mm variant of the Imbel IA2 assault rifle, following the submission of an evaluation report.
The weapon was tested in simulated combat conditions, including after immersion in sea water, state-owned Imbel announced on its website.
This test was conducted by the Army Assessment Center (CAEx) at Marambaia, with the participation of military personnel from the 1st Parachute Cavalry Squadron.
The 5.56mm IA2 assault rifle was approved in September 2015 as the standard infantry rifle for the Brazilian Army. ....
